They can either apply at any number of colleges and physically go to school on a schedule given by that school, or they can get their accounting degree on-line from the many on-line learning institutes. Accounting Degree Classes

As an example of an accounting degree program at a school based in Minnesota, in order to be an accountant and receive an Accounting AAS Degree, you would have to take all the required classes either on campus or through the online degree program.

This course consists of 12 college credits in the Foundations courses category which includes English, English II, and Math. You would need 16 college credits in the General Education courses category that include English composition, Communication, Speech, Humanities, Introduction to film, Creative Writing, and Introduction to Literature.

Other classes in the section of the curriculum also includes Structure and function of the Human Body, College Algebra, Astronomy, Geology, World Geography, Principles of Economics, Psychology, Sociology, and Contemporary United States Government.

Concentration Courses

The Major and Core courses for the accounting degree includes Accounting I, II, and III, Income Tax, Accounting Capstone, Business, Professional Communication, Computer Information Systems, Excel, among other courses that have to do with the business side of accounting.

In the accounting degree curriculum, there are also courses for Banking Emphasis, Financial Account Emphasis, and Financial Investigation Emphasis. These courses are just a few examples of the type of courses that one would have to take to become an accountant. This outline is just one university and their set up.
